Danny and I practice the Chi principles in most aspects of our lives: running, walking, our work, our relationships, and our inner lives. We work it, and it pays off.
This morning I was feeling vulnerable and cut off from my vital, creative energy.
I know, from experience, I no longer have to spend the whole day that way (or days or weeks) but I do have to stop and pay attention to what my body and energy are trying to tell me.
I know the blockage is there for a reason, and I’m confident that I have the tools I need to transform it.
So I stopped, listened, attended to my inner self, and within 20 minutes ended up with an image of being a trailblazer, finding a new path and a new way of moving forward.
That image changed everything in me. Where I had been stuck, vulnerable, and perhaps a bit despairing, I suddenly felt inspired, energized, and ready to move forward.
Being a trailblazer is how we change our old habits and create the life we want.

We often hear that New Year’s resolutions don’t work, and I tend to agree. But, I do know two things:
- Change is always possible and,
- New Year’s and the dead of winter is the perfect time to plant the seeds for growth.
Rather than making unrealistic or limiting resolutions, or chasing idealizations of success that are not true to your heart, perhaps it’s time to listen to what your body and inner self are trying to tell you.
As Willian Ernest Henley says in his poem Invictus, “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”
No one but yourself knows what is best for you or what road you should travel. The world seems to demand otherwise. “Conform!” it seems to say. “Do what you’ve been told to do!” These words seem to come down from on high.
But that small, quiet voice within says otherwise. It says, “Listen to me – I’ll show you the way!” It whispers, “Explore the mystery. Be a trailblazer of your own beautiful life.”
ChiLife Coaching adapts the principles use in ChiRunning and ChiWalking to bring positive change to your whole life.
