Cheryl is a Physical Therapist and EMT who became a ChiWalking and ChiRunning Instructor to combine her love of walking, hiking and running with her understanding of body mechanics and gait mechanics and a desire to help and teach others.
Cheryl started running in her twenties to lose weight and as her goal, she targeted the NYC Marathon. After shin splints, pushed that goal out for a year and began swimming for rehab. A colleague suggested she take up Triathlon since she was already doing two of the three disciplines. Cheryl liked the idea of cross training to prevent injuries and slowly started on a new sports journey, but running remains her first love.
Over the years, Cheryl still experienced a wide range of running related injuries, from plantar fasciitis and tear, to stress fractures and tendonitis. At one point, she thought she would never be able to run pain-free again until she found the ChiRunning book, read it from cover to cover. Cheryl started incorporating as many principles as possible and took a private class with a ChiRunning Instructor. After the class, she knew she wanted to deepen her knowledge and help others learn how to run with more efficiency and fewer injuries!
If you would like to discover more, reach out to Cheryl to learn about her upcoming workshops, schedule private coaching, or schedule your own workshop of a group of 4-8 people. Cheryl also offers video analysis, training plans, and triathlon coaching. Sessions are available in-person or virtual/online.
Taking the Chi Running clinic with Cheryl Lilley was a game-changing experience for my running journey. As an instructor, Cheryl brings a deep understanding of Chi Running principles combined with an exceptional ability to break down concepts into manageable, practical techniques. Cheryl’s vast knowledge of the human body and how it moves genuinely sets her apart. This expertise allows her to explain the ‘how’ of Chi Running and the ‘why,’ helping students understand the biomechanics behind each technique and its impact on different muscle groups and movement patterns.
Her teaching style is both professional and approachable, making it easy for participants of all skill levels to understand and apply the methods. When providing corrections or suggestions, she draws on her comprehensive understanding of anatomy and movement to offer insights that are both practical and scientifically grounded.
What further distinguishes Cheryl is her talent for providing clear, actionable cues that runners can take with them long after the clinic ends. I’ve found myself regularly implementing these cues during my runs, and the improvement in my running dynamics has been remarkable. She creates a supportive learning environment where questions are welcomed, and individual attention is given to ensure proper form and understanding.
If you’re interested in learning Chi Running, I wholeheartedly recommend Cheryl Lilley. Whether you’re a beginner looking to develop proper form from the start, or an experienced runner aiming to refine your technique, Cheryl has the knowledge, patience, and teaching skills to help you achieve your goals. The investment has paid dividends in my running efficiency and enjoyment of the sport. Her expertise in Chi Running and human anatomy, combined with her dedication to helping others master proper running form, make her an outstanding choice for anyone seeking to improve their running technique.

I participated in an introduction to chi running session in the springtime with Cheryl. Even though she was just starting out with her hands on instruction of the technique, she was very knowledgeable and informative on the hows and the whys of the method. We went through step by step from the history to the reasons and then took video of us running which was very helpful in the visual of our current running forms to what our goals would be. With Cheryl’s experience in marathon running and being a triathlete, she brings so much knowledge and experience to the table. If you’re looking to improve your running form, improve your times or just looking for an efficient way to run, this program is for you and Cheryl’s the professional to get you there!
