Connect with Hazel Wood

As a Master Instructor with 18 years’ experience teaching ChiRunning, Hazel Wood will teach you how to run with more ease and energy and prevent injury and give you lots of tips so that you can improve and enjoy your running more. Discover how efficient running technique affords less stress on your body and requires less effort. You will be guided through many exercises and drills designed to leave you with a clear sense of what the ChiRunning technique feels like in your body. You’ll enjoy a rich learning experience, get lots of personal attention and have fun.

We will not be doing lots of running (contrary to what you might imagine), so no matter what condition you are in, have no fear. This class is for anyone – beginners who want to start off “right”, seasoned runners who want to increase distance or speed, triathletes looking to improve the run portion, or if you’re just tired of being injured. The workshop is outdoors so dress in layers and bring water, sunscreen and any snacks you may need. You will receive materials to assist you with continued learning and practice.
Here’s a sampling of what you will learn:
• How to develop and practice good posture all day long
• How to move from your center (dantien) as in T’ai Chi
• How to avoid common form-related running injuries
• How to save energy and reduce dependence on leg strength
• How to make efficient use of upper body and arms
• How to use cadence to increase efficiency and reduce effort
• How to use gears for efficient stride length and speed
• How to relax and conserve energy at any speed

COVID19 Protocol: The instructor and participants will be required to follow the current recommendations on the dates of in-person sessions.

Please contact me at hazel@stridebystride.com with any questions about the workshop.

A bit about Hazel …. she’s been running for a long time and teaching ChiRunning for a long time (since 2004). She has run races from 1 mile to 50 miles and loves the trails – her favorite being the Dipsea trail. What others are saying…
I started running in 2002 when I began training for triathlons. I developed chronic neck pain, had persistent ITB strain (I even had to lie down in one event!). I started reading the book on Chi Running and while I found it fascinating and tried to learn all of the skills by myself I decided to seek out a trainer when I wanted to go longer distances. I worked with Hazel on a regular basis. The techniques are amazing and by watching me she knew exactly where I needed help. I have been able to run Half Marathons without hurting myself and ran my first marathon under her guidance and came in virtually free of pain. My core is stronger, my running is lighter and my endurance has changed remarkably. Hazel is knowledgeable, patient, creative and inspirational. I can’t recommend her highly enough…it doesn’t take long. If you practice what she teaches you you’ll be on your way to loving to run. Elizabeth Maier, MD

I’ve tried running off and on throughout my life and I could never seem to find that “zone” that serious runners refer to. After taking the ChiRunning classes, I quickly realized my inability to find that “zone” was primarily due to the “way” I was running. By the end of the classes, I was running up and down hills with more ease than I ever imagined, and I was on a “high”. Patti L
