Can You Make Your Program More Flexible?

Instructors in group classroom setting

When we asked for your feedback on what was the ONE THING you would need to make joining us inside the ChiRunning ChiWalking Instructor Training Program a no-brainer, you guys didn’t hold back!  Since so many of you responded, we decided to answer your top FIVE questions starting today in another email mini-series, saving the MOST ASKED question for LAST.

Today’s 5th, Most-asked Question:

“Can you make your program more flexible?”

The short answer is “YES, Yes we can!!!”

And we are SO glad you asked because it gives us a chance to show off (just a little) how we turned an already great program into something AMAZING!

The BC (before COVID) version of the ChiRunning ChiWalking Instructor Training Program featured a three-month, self-managed, home study course with an interactive workbook and DVDs.  Candidates practiced the lessons and scripts on friends to prepare for a four-day immersive weekend where Things. Got. REAL.

Now SC (since COVID), the program has been adapted to still deliver the same quality, high-touch experience that ChiRunning is known for, while…

  1. Respecting social distancing,
  2. Allowing for different learning modalities, and…
  3. Introducing a lot more flexibility.

As we mentioned yesterday, the certification program will be an online- offline fusion education experience.  Home study with an interactive instructors’ manual will still be a part of it, of course, as will the three quizzes and the final. However, we’ve replaced the four-day CRCWIT weekend with weekly, 90-minute, live sessions over Zoom.

Each week will feature:

  1. A lesson,
  2. An opportunity for Q & A, and…
  3. Some time to chat with you fellow classmates.

Can’t make the live call? No problem! Each session will be recorded so you can access the replay.  But we strongly encourage you to attend as many of the 26 live, weekly sessions in person as you can.

Now for the really FUN part!  The last six hours of your 32-hour program are to be spent one on one with a Certifying Master Instructor.  You choose who, where and how.  For all you runners wanting 1:1 in-person training, you have the opportunity to meet with your Certifying Master Instructor in person for lessons, technique review and a video tape analysis of you running and teaching. (

SIDE NOTE: These last two videos of you will be sent to ChiLiving by your Certifying Master Instructor as part of your final exam.)

We ask that any social distancing or mask mandates be observed during your sessions.  Obviously, if COVID restrictions or your own personal comfort levels prevent the in-person instruction from taking place, the sessions can be moved to private, online instruction (with approval from ChiLiving).

We hope you’re as excited by these program improvements as we are!

Over the next few days, we will tackle your other most pressing questions, so be sure to click on any emails you see from us!
